Public Hearing and Special City Council Meeting

April 30, 2007

 

 

 

The Mt. Vernon City Council held a Public Hearing on Monday, April 30, 2007 at 4:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1100 Main Street, Mt. Vernon, Illinois. 

 

Mayor David E. Keen called the Public Hearing portion to order.

 

Roll call showed present: Council Member Shirilyn Holt, Council Member John Howard, Council Member Mike Walker and Mayor David E. Keen.  Absent: Council Member Ricky D. Heck.

 

Mayor Keen turned the Public Hearing portion of the meeting over to City Manager Ron Neibert who presented the Proposed Annual Budget for 2007/2008. Mr. Neibert introduced Finance Director Merle Hollmann who went through a summary of the new budget and spoke of some of the highlights of the summary.

 

Discussion of the health insurance plan was discussed. 

 

Discussion was held regarding the sales tax revenues.

 

Discussion was held regarding the hotel/motel tax helping to keep the property tax down.

 

The Public Hearing portion of the meeting ended.

 

Motion by Council Member Mike Walker to Adopt Ordinance # 2007-24, an Ordinance Approving the Annual Budget for the City of Mt. Vernon for fiscal year 2007/2008. Second by Council Member John Howard.  Yeas: Holt, Howard, Walker and Keen.  Absent: Heck.
