Special City Council Meeting

June 14, 2006

 

 

The Mt. Vernon City Council met in Special Session on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1100 Main Street, Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

 

Mayor David E. Keen called the Special City Council Meeting to order.

 

Roll call showed present: Council Member John Howard, Council Member Mike Walker and Mayor David E. Keen.  Absent: Council Member Ricky D. Heck.

 

The invocation was given by Reverend Ron Lash.

 

City Clerk Jackie Sharp read the Notice of Special City Council Meeting.  The notice read as follows: I, David E. Keen, Mayor, hereby call a Special Meeting of the Mt. Vernon City Council at 1100 Main Street, City Hall, Mt. Vernon, Illinois on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is for such action as the Council may desire on the following matters:

1.                 Resignation of David E. Keen from Council Member Seat.

2.                 Swearing in of David E. Keen as Mayor

3.                 Appointment of Person to Vacant City Council Seat

4.                 Swearing in of Council Member Appointment

Mayor David E. Keen tendered his resignation as City Council Member on the City Council. City Clerk Jackie Sharp gave Mr. Keen the Official Oath of Office as Mayor.

 

Mayor Keen then asked for Council’s advice and consent on the appointment of Mrs. Shirilyn Holt to fill the vacant seat on the City Council.  Motion by Council Member Mike Walker to approve the nomination of Mrs. Shirilyn Holt to fill the vacancy on the City Council. Second by Council Member John Howard.  Yeas: Howard, Walker and Keen.  Absent: Heck. City Clerk Jackie Sharp gave Mrs. Holt the Official Oath of Office as City Council Member. Mayor David E. Keen introduced and congratulated Mrs. Holt on being the new City Council Woman.

 

 

 

 

Mayor Keen stated that this is a great day for Mt. Vernon and the City Council having Mrs. Holt on the City Council. The Council each took turns congratulating Mrs. Holt and welcoming her. Mrs. Holt spoke thanking the Mayor and Council for her appointment and giving special recognition to people who have influenced her life from God to her father and mother and other persons.

 

Mayor David E. Keen stated that as her first official act on the Council Mrs. Holt could adjourn this meeting.  Motion by Council Member Shirilyn Holt to adjourn this Special City Council Meeting. Second by Council Member John Howard. Yeas: Holt, Howard, Walker and Keen.  Absent: Heck.

 

Following the City Council Meeting many friends and residents stayed for an informal reception for Mayor Keen and Mrs. Holt.
