Employment type: Summer Intern
A Summer Internship opportunity with the City of Mt. Vernon is
available to those working towards a degree in Civil
Engineering, Surveying, or Construction Management.
Summer Internship positions with the City provide
students with an opportunity to gain real-world experience in
specific areas of study. Working in a fast-paced,
professional setting provides interns with invaluable
experiences applying the knowledge and skills learned through
their education in a Municipal environment.
The successful
candidates will assist with City’s Engineering department in
performing a variety of engineering tasks associated with the
planning, developing, designing, and managing civil engineering
projects. The work related to this summer internship position
will primarily include field assignments for data collection,
site reconnaissance, and construction observation.
The ideal candidate will:

Be working towards a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or
Construction Management;
·
Have strong problem solving skills;
·
Have excellent communication skills, written and verbal;
·
Pay strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and
judgment capabilities;
·
Have the ability to effectively interface with all levels of
personnel, management and the public.
·
Have the ability to self-motivate and work productively with
limited supervision.
·
Possess reliable transportation to arrive at work on time.
·
Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing;
·
Have working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and
Excel
Working hours:
Monday – Friday (8:00a.m. – 5:00p.m.)
