Starting May 1st, NRFU enumerators, sometimes called Census Takers,
will begin going door-to-door to households that did not respond to
the Census questionnaire by mail. They will be working in
every neighborhood through July 2010, or until the workload is
completed.
While Census Takers will visit every household that did not mail
back a Census form, they may visit a household that already mailed
back the form for several reasons: the respondent incorrectly
completed the form, left the form incomplete, mailed it back too
late, or the household has been selected for a quality assurance
check.
Please cooperate with Census Takers May 1 through July 10.

Census Bureau has opened four assistance
centers in the city to help residents file their Census forms by the
May 1 due date. “We’re here to answer questions concerning the
Census and are here to assist people in completing their Census
forms,” said Don Rogers of the U.S. Census Bureau. The assistance
centers opened on Monday, and Rogers said some of the common
questions he has been receiving so far are what to do with duplicate
forms and who qualifies as a resident at a certain address.
Assistance offices in Mt. Vernon have been set up at the Municipal
Building West on Potomac Boulevard; at the District 80 Central
Office on North Street; at the Comprehensive Services office on
Illinois Highway 37 north; and at the C.E. Brehm Memorial Library.
Hours at the offices vary, with the MUNY office open from 9 a.m. to
noon Monday through Friday and the District 80 office open from 1 to
4 p.m. Monday through Friday. A Census representative is at the
library from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and on Saturday
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and at Comprehensive Services from 12:30 to
3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Rogers said the assistance centers
will be open now through April 19, and reminded residents the forms
should be mailed by May 1. “If people haven’t received Census forms
yet, they will be coming in the mail,” Rogers said. “But, if anyone
hasn’t received one, or wants to complete one now, they can come
here or call the Bureau at its office in Edwardsville for a
replacement.” The Census Bureau Edwardsville office phone number is
(618) 307-3710, and residents may also call the toll-free Census
number of (866) 872-6868 seven days a week, Rogers said.
