City of
City Council
Workshop Meeting
Monday,
September 26, 2011
The
Mayor Mary
Jane Chesley called the Workshop Meeting to order.
Roll call
showed present: Councilman Ron Lash, Councilman Dennis McEnaney, Councilman Todd
Piper, Councilman David Wood, and Mayor Mary Jane Chesley.
Mayor
Chesley noted business to be transacted at the meeting as follows: discussion of
proposed accounting software; Executive Session to discuss land acquisition; and
personnel.
Proposed
Accounting Software
Finance
Director Merle Hollmann advised that the present accounting software used by the
City was purchased in May 2000 from New World Systems.
The software is not windows based, is very cumbersome to carry out
routine processes, and the support services are slow, inadequate and expensive.
After much
research, Finance Director Hollmann recommended the City purchase new accounting
software from Tyler Technologies, Inc. which had the lower cost of the programs
studied by Finance Director Hollmann and his staff.
A few of the major advantages will be as follows:
1) windows platform will make software more user friendly; 2) references
contacted indicated that support services are fast and responsive; 3) routine
processes will be easier; 4) annual maintenance costs will be lower; and 5)
training of new departmental and finance employees will be easier.
City Manager
Neibert requested that a Resolution approving the purchase of new accounting
software from Tyler Technologies, Inc. be placed on the Agenda for the City
Council meeting on Monday, October 3, 2011.
Motion by
Councilman Wood to go into Executive Session to discuss land acquisition and
personnel. Second by Councilman
McEnaney. Yeas: Lash, McEnaney,
Piper, Wood, and Chesley.
The Council
came back into Regular Session at 5:30 p.m.
Motion by
Councilman McEnaney to adjourn the City Council Workshop Meeting.
Second by Councilman Ron Lash.
Yeas: Lash, McEnaney, Piper and Chesley.
Absent Councilman Wood.
