Coloring Contest
This year's cleanup was kicked
off with a City Wide Cleanup 2008 coloring contest. There
were over 200 entries from several different schools, which were
judged by 7 different judges. The winner of the contest is
Bryce Hunter, a fifth grader at J.L. Buford School. His
design will be scanned on the front of 1000 tie-dyed t-shirts.
He received a 4 foot trophy from Mayor Mary Jane Chesley and was
recognized on WSIL-3 News, and also on WDML 106.9 FM radio
station. Bryce stated the reason he likes the cleanup is
because he doesn't want to see the town dirty, and it builds
pride among the citizens. Bryce's principal is Mr. Patrick
Rice and his teacher is Mrs. Purcell at J.L. Buford School.
His theme was "Making Mt. Vernon's Future" and how we as
individuals are the key to the future. He had fireworks
exploding above the Abraham Lincoln Memorial representing the
Land of Lincoln and the fireworks representing Mt. Vernon's
future success.
