Fleet
Services
provides full support and maintains the
City’s fleet of approximately 150 vehicles and equipment (from
Police Department squad cars to Public Works snow plows) for all
departments with the exception of the Fire Department.
Fleet Services
provides the departments with safe, reliable, and properly
equipped vehicles so they may perform city wide services and
responsibilities in an efficient, productive, and cost effective
manner.
Fleet
Services maintains
fleet inventory control
by monitoring cost analysis records of vehicles and equipment
and assessing each department's needs. Fleet Services coordinates
new and used purchases, prepares specifications for the
acquisition of new purchases and assists in fleet assignment to
various city departments, as well as coordinating the disposal
of retired vehicles and equipment through the annual
surplus equipment sale.
Staff identify, coordinate, and monitor vehicle and equipment
modification and fabrication, refurbishing and rebuilding, heavy
equipment maintenance and welding, vehicle change outs, paint
and body repairs, and new vehicle and equipment preparation.
An established
parts inventory
control
level is maintained and carefully monitored
to assist in the success of the
preventive maintenance
program, regular maintenance,
services, and also critical repairs due to inclement weather,
road call assistance, and other emergencies. This control level
enables the department to minimize vehicle and equipment downtime.
Repair records using a
computerized fleet maintenance program are maintained.
This program provides accurate record management for tracking
labor and material costs as well as maintaining a history and
current log of all open and closed work requests.
The purchasing and
dispensing of fuel and
oil is also the
responsibility of
Fleet Services. Gas, diesel, and
oil products are purchased using a bid process with local
vendors. The dispensing systems are located at the maintenance
facility at 20th & Waterworks Road. All City vehicles
and equipment
fuel at this location.
