Current Projects July 2007

It’s an exciting time in Mount Vernon/Jefferson County, IL . The State of Illinois will begin construction on the new interchange August 1, 2007.  We are just weeks away from the beginning of a huge transformation in Mount Vernon/Jefferson County since the interchange is one mile south of Exit 95 on Interstate57/64 and creates tremendous opportunity for future development.   What a great advantage for additional access to Interstates 57 and 64 in the heart of Southern Illinois.

Other good news from Mount Vernon/Jefferson County includes:

·         Ethanex Energy project scheduled to begin construction this fall. A 132 million gallon ethanol plant just southwest of Mount Vernon at Waltonville, IL will create about 400 construction jobs over 12 months and 55 full time permanent jobs upon completion.

·         Power Holdings, a synthetic natural gas gasification plant, is on the horizon to begin construction in the first quarter of 2008.  The $1.2 billion project will create 1200 construction jobs over three years and 600 full time jobs upon completion.

·         Continental Tire N.A. announced an additional investment of $78 million in their tire manufacturing facility. This announcement brings the total investment into their facility to over $160 million in two years including the state of the art tandem mixer currently being built.

·         Cedarhurst Center for the Arts is expanding their museum and art center with a $6 million expansion.

·         Heritage Woods Senior Assisted Living just completed construction (June 2007) of their 66 unit facility on South 42nd Street in Mount Vernon, iL and opened with 80% occupancy.

·         Mount Vernon Senior Living is soon to close on their project and begin construction of 50 units, also on South 42nd Street in Mount Vernon, IL.

·         Pilot Truck Stop has announced their intention to begin construction this fall at State Route 15 and North Davidson Drive in Mount Vernon, IL.

·         Westmont Apartment, South 34th Street, is building 10 new market rate units at their site.

·         St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital and Dr. Oza opened (January, 2006) their new $ 4 million regional Cancer Care facility on Veteran Drive.

·         Girl Scouts of America completed construction on their new regional headquarters (Summer 2006) . Other new service and retail construction includes: First State Bank of Dix, Banterra Bank, Fiith/Third Bank, Goodwill Industries, Sherwin Williams, Capt’n D’s, Krieger’s at the Holiday Inn, and more.

·         Downtown Mount Vernon has experienced significant redevelopment with projects estimated at $4 million in local investment and include new businesses such as:  9th Street Grill, Willy’s Café, Brickhouse Coffee House, The Rex,  as well as business and apartment renovations, condominiums,  and second story residential development.

·          Downtown Development completed their comprehensive plan for redevelopment in 2005 and received a $500,000 grant for streetscape improvements in 2006…a new look and new life in Downtown Mount Vernon, IL.

·         The U.S. Postal Service moved their retail facilities to Park Plaza shopping center located on South 10th street.

·         Boroviak’s IGA, a regional grocer also located in the Park Plaza development, completed a fuel station and convenience store next to their facility (2007).

·         Mount Vernon Airport has won the Illinois Department of Transportation Aviation Department Airport of the Year designation. We are very proud of their accomplishments and attraction of SRT, a comprehensive aeronautics maintenance business.

·         Comfort Inn Suites and Fairfield Inn were completed in 2006 bringing the total properties to 14 and rooms to 1263.
