Rend Lake College Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

 

The SBDC counselors offer a variety of expertise to help with every aspect of starting or growing a business.  SBDC's in Illinois are a joint effort among the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunities (DCEO).  In addition to small business development the Rend Lake College Center for Business offers business and industry training, cooperative education and job placement, customized training, and continuing education for professions.   Services provided by the SBDC include:

  • general business counseling

  • business plan development

  • financial analysis

  • marketing plan development

  • accounting and bookkeeping assistance

  • loan structuring

  • workshops

  • seminars and customized training

Jefferson Marion Washington Community Development Corporation (CDC)

Small business loans are available to finance the acquisition of assets such as land, buildings, and equipment, to construct new or renovate existing facilities, and to provide working capital.  Funding for this program is provided by grants from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).  The loans are provided at market or below market interests rates with flexible terms.  In order to qualify for CDC loan funds, job creation or retention is required.  The CDC funds can generally finance up to 25% of the project costs.  The average maturity cannot exceed the economic life of facilities, and a CDC member bank must sponsor the application.  Contact the CDC for member bank information and program guidelines.  In addition to the business loan program, the CDC offers:

Southern Illinois Entrepreneurship Center

 

This program focuses on promoting an entrepreneurial culture throughout the southern Illinois region and works with entrepreneurs in all phases of operations from start-up to exit.  The Center administers a DCEO award program that may be used for obtaining professional services to achieve business milestones.  Counselors conduct business assessments to determine needs and provide business coaching services to assist with funding pitches for investor meetings.  Advanced financial assistance is provided to determine capital needs and make investor introductions.  The Southern Illinois Entrepreneurship Center serves the southern 39 counties in Illinois in order to assist potential enterprises and stimulate growth in the region.
