The excellent location with I-57 and I-64 major transportation routes have served commerce well and brings visitors from all parts of the country.  Mt. Vernon is home to many small businesses and is surrounded by large and small agricultural operations.  Along with major employers Continental Tire North American, Walgreen's Distribution Center, and St. Mary's Good Samaritan, Inc., diverse employment opportunities are available to area residents.
