Water is distributed to the region principally through municipally-owned or regional water districts.  The major source of water for this area is the 19,000 acre Rend Lake.  The Intercity Water System provides 15 million gallons of water per day (capacity 22 mgd) to 300,000 people in over 60 communities within a 30 mile radius.
