Keep Mt. Vernon/Jefferson County Beautiful is a non-profit organization financed through grants and membership dollars.  The organization's objective is to promote recycling in the community through education and awareness, and to develop better habits in dealing with solid waste.  In addition Mt. Vernon Bright and Beautiful works with schools, businesses, industry, churches, civic organizations, and neighborhoods on projects to create a more beautiful community.  Mt. Vernon Bright and Beautiful is committed to working toward a cleaner environment.  The Mt. Vernon Bright and Beautiful Office is located at 601 Bledsoe in Mt. Keep Mt. Vernon/Jefferson County Beautiful is accepting nominations for the Neighborhood Beautification Award.  With this award, a city resident and a county resident are recognized for outstanding beautification, landscaping, and care of their premises.  To nominate call (618) 242-8363 and leave the nominee's name, address, and telephone number.

Nominations for the Bright and Beautiful Business Award are also being accepted and will be given in two categories, beautification and recycling.  To nominate in the beautification category call (618) 242-8363 and leave the business' name and telephone number.  To nominate in the recycling category, a description of the recycling program should be mailed to 601 Bledsoe, Mt. Vernon, IL  62864.

Membership dollars are critical to the successful implementation of an organized recycling program in Mt. Vernon.  The community can help support Keep Mt. Vernon/Jefferson County Beautiful by purchasing memberships; a booster membership for $10-$99, sponsor for $100-$249, patron for $250-$499, and a benefactor for $500 and up.
