Hours and hours and lots and lots of little stitches combined with a
true love for the art of quilting is what these fabric treasures are
made of! The 22nd Annual Gathering of Quilts exhibition features quilts
made by the Cedarhurst Quilters, a local group of quilting enthusiasts.
Due to the variety and size of the exhibit, quilts will be displayed in
the Regenhardt Gallery at Shrode Art Center as well as the Beal Grand
Corridor Gallery inside the Mitchell Museum, both located on the grounds
of Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mt. Vernon, IL. The exhibit displays the wonderful textile talents of quilters of all ages and celebrates their love of fabrics, color, and an age-old craft. Several quilts in the show tell a family story or the design honors their heritage or the memory of a loved one. The exhibit, which is sponsored by Hughey Funeral Home, Doug and Debby Kroeschen, and St. Mary’s Good Samaritan, Inc. is open August 6 through October 16. A special bed turning program will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, August 14 in the Beal Grand Corridor at Mitchell Museum and feature quilts made by charter members of the Cedarhurst Quilters. Members of the Quilters group, which hosts the event, will turn back individually and describe a series of quilts which are layered on a brass bed. A new exhibition in the Beck Family Center Gallery at Cedarhurst will continue with the quilt theme and offer Snuggle and Snooze: Quilts for Children. Whimsical child-themed quilts made by members of the Cedarhurst Quilters group is featured in the gallery August 6 through October 16. The exhibit is sponsored in honor of Molly Federici, by her family, Gino, Toni. Mary, Mia and Michael. Hours for viewing the quilt exhibitions are 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 pm Sunday. The galleries and sculpture park are open until 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays through Labor Day.
