Boards and Commissions

The City of Mt. Vernon has 11 boards and commissions that are made up of volunteers who want to get involved in their local government and give back to their community. Unless otherwise provided by City ordinance, the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the Council, appoints members of all committees, boards, and commissions.

Boards and commissions are established for the purpose of reviewing information and making recommendations to the City Council on City policy issues. There is no difference between a board and a commission. Each has their own specific duties and functions.
