Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA)
What is a DORA?
A Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) is a special zone in downtown Mt. Vernon where you can buy alcoholic drinks from participating bars and restaurants and enjoy them outside. It’s a fun way to support local businesses while walking around downtown.
How Does It Work?
1. Get Your Drink
Visit a participating bar or restaurant and order a beer, wine, or cocktail in a special DORA cup.
The DORA is open every day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

2. Walk Around
You can take your DORA cup and walk within the downtown DORA area.
Your drink must stay in the DORA cup.
Look for signs and maps that show the boundaries.

3. Enjoy the Area
Sip your drink while visiting other places downtown.
If a business has a green DORA sticker, you’re welcome to bring your drink inside.

4. Throw It Away
When you’re done, throw your cup in the trash.
If you visit another bar, or a store with a red DORA sticker, you must finish and throw away your drink before going inside.
What You Can't Do in the Dora
- No outside alcohol — You can’t bring your own drinks into the DORA.
- DORA cup only — No cans, glass bottles, or other containers allowed.
- No bar-hopping with drinks — Don’t carry a drink from one bar into another.
- Don’t enter red-sticker businesses with a drink — You cannot take a DORA drink into any business that has a red DORA sticker.
- Stay inside the zone — You must stay inside the DORA boundaries.
Leaving the area with a drink is against city rules.
