Community Food Drive: Supporting Those in Need

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting families in our community, the City of Mt. Vernon is participating in a non-perishable food drive until April 29, 2024. This initiative aims to provide essential food items to households facing food insecurity, particularly those relying on SNAP benefits.

In Mt. Vernon, 24.1% of households receive SNAP benefits, with a significant portion (54.7%) of these households having children under the age of 18. The food drive presents an opportunity for us to come together and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our neighbors.

Residents are encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal, and other shelf-stable essentials. Donations can be dropped off at one of the following locations:

  • City Hall
  • Churches
  • District 80 Schools
  • High School FBLA
  • Kroger
  • Over Head Door
  • Summersville Grade School
  • Rose Lane Community Center
  • YMCA

Your support can make a difference by ensuring that families in our community have access to nutritious meals during challenging times. Let's work together to make this food drive a success and provide vital assistance to those who need it most.
