Yard Waste

Illinois state law prohibits disposing of leaves and other yard waste in landfills. These materials cannot be placed in plastic garbage bags or mixed with normal garbage. Also, please be aware that leaf burning is only allowed during leaf burning weeks in Mt. Vernon.

Requirements

Yard waste includes brush, branches, logs, Christmas trees and other similar yard waste. Yard waste must be placed in a reusable container or a paper or other biodegradable bag that cannot exceed 30 gallons. For items such as brush, branches, limbs and twigs, material can be tied in 2' x 4' bundles tied with twine. Bundles shall not exceed three feet in length or weigh more than 35 pounds.

Yard waste pick up days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of every week. Your pick up day is based on the trash collection schedule.
