Vernon Appellate Courthouse is the only courthouse still in operation as a courthouse where Abraham Lincoln tried a case (it was a supreme court then). It is also the location Red Cross founder, Clara Barton, used to set up a makeshift hospital when the great cyclone hit Mt. Vernon in 1888.
