Most minor repairs do not require a building permit but, many projects may only be performed after securing a building permit. All work will need to be inspected to ensure compliance with the city’s building codes and ordinances.
The process begins with submitting a completed application. Applications may be completed and submitted online or by downloading an application and submitting it by email to kevin.gatewood@mtvernon or delivering it in person to the Engineering and Inspections Office inside City Hall. Two printed plans must be submitted with the application. Please review the different requirements for residential and commercial projects.
Once a completed application is submitted it will be reviewed by the Engineering and Inspections Department, the Planning and Zoning Committee and the city council. If the application is approved, a building permit will be issued.
