Garbage
The City of Mt. Vernon works with Republic Services to provide safe and reliable weekly garbage collection for residents. All household trash must be placed inside your blue refuse cart for pickup. Following these rules helps keep our community clean and ensures collection goes smoothly.
Requirements
- All garbage must be placed inside the blue refuse cart with the lid closed.
- Garbage that is outside the cart or has the lid open will not be picked up.
- Place your cart at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day.
- Carts must be removed from the curb within 24 hours after your pick-up.
Unacceptable Items
For safety reasons, some items cannot go in the garbage cart because they can harm workers or the environment. Do NOT place these in your cart:
- Batteries
- Paint
- Construction materials
- Medical waste
- Pesticides and poisons
- Automobile fluids (oil, anti freeze, gas)
