The Mt. Vernon Fire Department is honored to serve our residents, visitors, and businesses. Every day, our firefighters respond to fires, medical calls, and other emergencies with one goal in mind—keeping our community safe.
Our Mission
To protect the people of Mt. Vernon from fires, medical emergencies, and disasters—both natural and man-made—through skilled training, proven methods, and the best tools available.

- Team: 25 full-time firefighters and 5 administrative staff.

- Advanced Life Support (ALS) First Response
- Hazardous Materials Response Team
- Member of MABAS Division 47 (regional mutual aid network)

Our firefighters don’t just serve during an emergency—we’re also active members of the Mt. Vernon community. You’ll see us:
- Teaching kids about fire safety in schools
- Providing public education programs for all ages
- Training daily to stay prepared for any situation
