Demolition Permits
If you plan to tear down (demolish) a building or structure in Mt. Vernon, you must get a Demolition Permit first. This helps make sure the work is done safely and follows city rules.
When Do You Need a Demolition Permit?
You need a demolition permit for many common items, including:

Houses

Mobile homes
-
Covered porches
-
Decks
-
Garages
-
Carports
-
Storage buildings or sheds
-
Commercial buildings
Note: Other items may also require a permit. If you’re not sure, contact the Engineering and Inspections Office.
How to Apply
To apply for a demolition permit, you can:
- Submit the application online
- Email the application to brad.ruble@mtvernon.com
- Download an application and bring it in person to the Engineering and Inspections Office at City Hall.
Fees
Fees may be paid in person or by calling the Engineering and Inspections Office.
- $5.00 - one story structure or miscellaneous items such as fences, pools, sheds, etc.
- $10.00 - two story and above structures
