Pay: $15.25 Per Hour

Position Summary

Under the administrative direction of the Pool Manager and the Park Director, performs the work related to the operation of a clean and safe pool facility, assists with supervision of aquatics staff and record keeping of daily operations, observes users of the public swimming pool, enforces pool regulations, provides rescue assistance, administers first aid, and instructs all levels and ages of swimming lessons.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Observes users of the public swimming pool
  • Enforces pool regulations
  • Enforces safety and health regulations
  • Provides rescue assistance
  • Assists other aquatic staff members as needed
  • Instruct all levels and ages of swimming lessons
  • Collects and submits daily receipts
  • Promotes use of pool facility
  • Securing recreational facilities
  • Keeps pool facility clean and orderly
  • Other assigned and related duties to assure a successful pool operation

Qualifications

Education

  • Working knowledge of current life guarding techniques and procedures related to the rescue of drowning swimmers
  • Working knowledge of first aid procedures common in swimming pool operations
  • Star Guard or Red Cross Instructor Certification, preferred
  • Ability to pass basic reading, writing, and mathematics exams

  • Ability to discipline, lead, and interact with young children in a positive manner
  • Ability to courteously and effectively deal with the general public
  • Requires the ability to organize duties and produce results in a timely manner.
  • Requires excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Skilled in administering First Aid and CPR
  • Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations, making proper judgments as to the correct course of action
  • Supervisory skills

Work Schedule

  • Hours vary per day and week, Monday through Sunday. Requires evening work and/or weekend hours
  • Part-time seasonal position

Physical Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years of age. A 15-year-old must submit a valid work permit.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds using proper body mechanics
  • Ability to keep focused attention on tasks, which may be routine or repetitive, without losing concentration or becoming distracted by external activities
  • Ability to stand, sit, reach, grasp, lift/carry, walk, climb, kneel, squat/bend, and push/pull
  • Use written sources of information, e.g., read reports, procedural documentation, reference materials
  • Perform detailed work requiring visual acuity, e.g., repair electronic equipment
  • Use non-verbal auditory sources of information, e.g., alarms, beepers, pagers
