Electrical Aggregation
The city of Mt. Vernon participates in an electric aggregation program to help lower electric rates for residents. Homefield Energy is the current electric supplier with a rate of $0.11789 per kWh.

Solicitations
From time to time, salespeople may go door-to-door in neighborhoods. Here’s what to keep in mind:
- They are not associated with the City of Mt. Vernon.
- Never share your account information with anyone saying they work for the city.
- All solicitors must carry a City-issued permit and show it if asked.
- Salespeople must respect "No Soliciting" signs.
- Hours are limited to 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
- Soliciting is not allowed on Sundays or on state holidays.
- If someone does not have a permit, is out after hours, or refuses to leave, call the Police Department at 618-242-2727.
The city cannot deny a permit without valid cause and written complaints from residents.
