Garbage and Recycling
The City of Mt. Vernon is currently contracted with Republic Services to provide a waste program that encourages recycling and helps reduce litter in our neighborhoods. The following services offered include: garbage pick-up, recycling, yard waste collection and bulk item collection.
Republic Services also provides an automated call service to inform you of any delays in service such as a holiday or weather. If you would like to sign up for this services, please complete the Republic Services Automated Notification form and submit online or download and submit to the Billing Services Department.
Garbage collection will not take place on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day. When scheduled collections fall on one of these holidays, collections are delayed by one day. For example, if your scheduled collection day is on Mondays and Christmas Day falls on Monday, your collection will be delayed to Tuesday.
City ordinance requires that trash and recycling carts are stored off of the roadway or curbs and on private property and not in a highly visible location. This is to help keep the roadways safer and our neighborhoods beautiful.
Missed Pick Up and Other Issues
If you have a missed pick up, need a new trash or recycling cart, or have any other issues, please call Republic Services at 1-800-631-1156. To get help online, visit the Republic Services website and create an account which allows you to submit service requests and sign up for service alerts.
