The city of Mt. Vernon participates in an electric aggregation program to help lower electric rates for residents. Homefield Energy is the current electric supplier with a rate of $0.11789 per kWh.

Solicitations

During warmer months, you may see salespeople going door-to-door. Please remember:

  • They are not associated with the City of Mt. Vernon.
  • Never share your account information with anyone saying they work for the city.
  • All solicitors must have a City-issued permit. They must carry it with them and show it if asked.
  • Salespeople must respect "No Soliciting" signs. 
  • Soliciting is only allowed between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
  • Soliciting is not allowed on Sundays or on state holidays.
  • If a salesperson does not have a permit, is out after dark, or refuses to leave when asked, call the Police Department at 618-242-2727.

The city cannot deny a permit without valid cause and written complaints from residents.
